Level 4 - Music Video Analysis

We was given a task to research and analyse existing music videos that received a level 4 grade so we can look for guidance and aim towards this. Here is one of the level 4 music videos that is my favourite, as it looks so professional and looks like it could be a real music video. This whole video is one shot, which shows the work and planning that was put into it to create such a professional outcome. The lip syncing is perfect and all of the acting is believable. The use of the props is my favourite as you can see the design and effort that went into creating them all and making them all believable. The costumes are also very high end, like the waitresses are all wearing things that a waiter or waitress would wear so it makes it more realistic. I would score this 60/60

Here is another music video that i think is very professional and very succesfull. The idea is excellent, the use of changing costumes depending on the channel that it is playing on is very succesfull. All of the costume changes and the different scenes make the video exciting and not boring due to there always being something happening. Also, the channel changing and the menu bar at the bottom of each page works well, and it is something different as it has not been done before. Also, the logo that is shown in the top right hand corner shows what channel is on and then the cosumes change and give that look. The shots are very quick cut which makes the video fun and you want to watch till the end as you want to see what else they could do. I would score this 60/60

The final video that i think is really good is this one. I like this video because it is a mixture between performance and concept, which makes it more exctiting as it changes. One minute the artist is perfoming, the next she is doing different things that a celebrity would do. For example on the red carpet, signing CD's, at a photoshoot. We get an insight to the life of the artist, and this makes it more interactive with fans and they feel as though they are involved with the stars life and get an insight to what they get up to. The costume and props are also very professional, as they are very believable and they could be a real star and artist. I would score this video 58/60

I think this video is very childish due to the constant use of camera shapes that the filming has been put into, for example constant hearts being filled with the filming. However, it is clear to say that the person who edited this is very advanced in the software due to the good editing that is done throughout. There is a clear narrative throughout the music video, but a cliche storyline of a ex boyfriend misses his girlfriend and hates her new boyfriend. Although the storyline isn't very good, the music video is very enticing and makes you want to watch it the whole way through to see what happens. It is also very believable, you can imagine the voice coming out of the artist and him being a real star. Something that is not very successful is the lip syncing at the beginning as it is the wrong timings, however I like it when the red lips fade into the camera after the previous lips. I would give this video about 45/60.

Here is a video that is one of my personal favourites because I think the photography and everything about the video works well. The storyline is different, which makes the video more interesting for the audience to view because they haven't typically seen one like this before. Also, some of the props used in this video are going to be included in our video. For example drug and alcohol use. There is a clear show of narrative and performance throughout, as there is a story being told but there is also lots of lip syncing included. The video is very professional, with the use of lighting being very effective throughout and I think it could be a real music video. There is a lot of fast pace shots in this music video, which we want to take inspiration from as we think this would be very effective in our own music video. I would score this video 58/60.
